WASHINGTON, Nov. 29, 2011 - A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Haqqani network leader during an operation in the Sabari district of Afghanistan's Khost province today, military officials reported.
The facilitator distributed roadside bombs and planned attacks against Afghan forces, officials said. One other person was detained during the operation.
In other Afghanistan operations today:
-- A combined force captured a Taliban facilitator in the Ghazni district of Ghazni province. The facilitator directed attacks against Afghan forces. The security force detained one other person during the operation.
-- In the Yahya Khel district of Paktika province, a combined force confiscated bomb-making materials and detained two suspects during a search for a Haqqani network leader. The leader is responsible for attacks against Afghan forces.
-- A combined force captured two insurgents, one an al-Qaida facilitator, and killed two other insurgents in the Surkh Rod district of Nangarhar province. The facilitator served as a courier and delivered supplied to insurgents in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
-- A combined force killed one insurgent and detained one other person during a search for a Taliban leader in the Maidan Shahr district of Wardak province. The leader plans attacks against Afghan forces in the district.
-- A combined force captured a Taliban facilitator and detained two suspects in the Maiwand district of Kandahar province. The facilitator distributed roadside bombs, weapons and ammunition, and he provided financial support to insurgent fighters.
-- In the Yahya Khel district of Paktika province, a combined force seized 110 pounds of hashish and 60 pounds of poppy seeds.
-- In the Tanai district of Khost province, a local Afghan turned in nine grenades, six rocket-propelled grenades, 11 RPG motors, some small-arms and machine-gun ammunition, three containers of explosives and more than 100 bomb-making components.
In other news, Afghan and Romanian combined patrols discovered several homemade bombs in Zabul province Nov. 27.
