As far back as anyone can remember, African American Veterans and citizens in the Mississippi River towns of Vidalia, Louisiana, and Natchez, Mississippi, have come together on Memorial Day to honor military service to the country and pay respects to loved ones interred at the Natchez National Cemetery.

VETERAN OF THE WEEK

This week we honor Coast Guard Veteran Florence Ebersole Smith Finch. Florence served during World War II.

Florence was born in the Philippines. She was working as a secretary for U.S. Army intelligence in Manila when the Japanese invaded the Philippines soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
