Deanna Callender has learned to focus
without sight. In 2007, the Army and Army National Guard Veteran
was diagnosed with a degenerative eye disease that would eventually take
her eyesight. The news was anything but tragic for her.
Major Pauline Cushman lived a life full of
adventure and travel. She spent the majority of her life pursuing a career
as an actress. In 1863, during the Civil War, she was presented with the
greatest acting role of her life. She became a spy for the Union.

Dona served during World War II from 1942
to 1946. She joined the Army Nurse Corps after the bombing of Pearl Harbor
when she was working at the New Orleans Charity Hospital.
