Honor

Veterans, smiles and a dog named Honor

In early January the VA Medical Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma, became a brighter, cheerier place with the arrival of its newest staff member.

Her name is Honor, and she’s only 18-months-old.

Army Vet working at VA

Program helps formerly homeless Army Vet land a job at VA serving his fellow Veterans

After almost a year, Michael Brumfield’s hard work is starting to bear fruit – as a full time cook at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System. After he got out of the Army, Brumfield came back home to New Orleans, but fell on hard times and eventually became homeless. Having nowhere else to go, he walked into VA’s Community Resource and Referral Center and asked for help.

Department of Labor medallion

Department of Labor awards program honors employers who hire and retain Veterans

The program stems from the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing (HIRE) American Military Veterans Act of 2017, which directs the department  to “annually solicit and accept voluntary information from employers for consideration of employers to receive a HIRE Vets Medallion Award.”

Veteran of the Day

 VETERAN OF THE WEEK

This week we honor Navy Veteran Michael A. Focareto III.

He founded an organization called VetTix, which provides tickets to events that reduce stress, strengthen family bonds, build life-long memories and encourage service members and Veterans to stay engaged with local communities and American life.
