After training at Fort Benning, Ga., he was assigned to Vicenza, Italy, with 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry as a grenadier and rifleman, an assignment that included a combat tour to Afghanistan from May 2007 to August 2008. After his Italy assignment, he was assigned as an opposing forces sergeant with the Ranger Training Battalion at Fort Benning.
